Edward Townsend died from unspecified causes on 8th February, 1915, while serving with the Royal Army Veterinary Corps in France. During the war the Royal Army Veterinary Corps was responsible for the care and welfare of the many thousands of horses and mules used by the army, often in front line locations, pulling guns or service wagons. Many of these animals were killed and wounded.
